ISRAELI PM THREATENS NEXT GAZA FREEDOM FLOTILLA

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu threatened to “act firmly” using “force” against the Freedom Flotilla from 22 countries due to set sail for Gaza next month. It will be joined by an Australian contingent in partnership with Canadians and others.

Organisers are extremely concerned considering Israel’s use of lethal force against civilians on last year’s Freedom Flotilla.

Netanyahu has also asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to help stop the Freedom Flotilla. The Secretary General has responded saying that Israel should end the blockade of Gaza.

“Netanyahu’s statement is tantamount to a death threat against participants in the Flotilla. In spite of this, all intending participants from Australia have declared that they will not be deterred. The siege of Gaza must be broken and the Freedom Flotilla will sail ahead as planned.” said Rihab Charida of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla Working Group in Sydney.

In June 2007, Israel and the so-called Quartet, the US, the UN, Russia and the EU, imposed a siege on the people of Gaza after all Palestinians had democratically elected Hamas to form Government. Since then the 1.5 million people of Gaza have been shut off from the outside world, trapped within the world’s largest open-air prison in an act of collective punishment.

Essential food, medical, building and other supplies have been prevented from entering the tiny coastal strip, impoverishing its people and destroying its economy. The easing of the siege in response to the last Freedom Flotilla has been cosmetic only with no materials for manufacture permitted, nor exports, nor free passage of people.
“In the face of the shameful failure of governments to defend international law, the people of the world will break the unlawful siege of Gaza,” said Ms Charida.

The Freedom Flotilla sets sail for Gaza in the second half of May 2011. †It consists of more than 11 boats from over 22 countries including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, USA, Britain, Greece, Turkey, Australia and France.

  1. Actually, Israel does allow humanitarian aid for Gaza…the stipulation is that it goes through their port for inspection prior to disbursement. Hamas is a terrorist organization committed to the destruction of the Jewish people. This is evidenced by the repeated rocket attacks on Sderot as well as other parts of Israel. The world calls them aggressors…do you think any other country would sit idely by while being attacked? The Israel government does all it can to protect the innocent..they phone the homes in the area targeted for retaliation to let them know to get out. Who else does that and why do the terrorists set up camp where the innocent live? I wonder what the US would do if Canada or Mexico was lobbing bombs over our borders. Look at a map of the Middle East. That tiny strip of land is all the Jews are asking for…the huge territories surrounding Israel are owned by Arabs..why don’t they take care of their own if they are so concerned about the Palestinians? The tremendous wealth of the oil-rich Arab nations is more than enough to care for all the impoverished people called Palestinians. What’s wrong with this picture?

  2. Actually, Israel does allow humanitarian aid for Gaza…the stipulation is that it goes through their port for inspection prior to disbursement. CORRECTION: No reconstruction aid, unless for UN reconstruction efforts, no exports, not enough medical aid or enough quantity of anything to sustain any of Gaza’s industries, i.e. methodically stranggling the economy to the point of colappse – as was pointed out by a US diplomate in a cable leaked by Wikkileaks.

Hamas is a terrorist organization committed to the destruction of the Jewish people.
CORRECTION: Hamas is an organisation that yes violently resists an illegal military occupation and also happens to hold the majority in the Palestinian Parliament after the last election. And by the way Hamas has stated on several occations that it’s charter which does call for the destruction of Israel is up for negotiation at long term peace negations, but strangely Israel thinks pre conditions to talks are ok on this issue – unlike the settlement issue where the Palestinian’s can’t even request a stop to illegal development on the land being negotiated.

This is evidenced by the repeated rocket attacks on Sderot as well as other parts of Israel. CORRECTION: Unfortunately rockets do get fired at Israeli civilians and that horrifies me – but so does the much more regular IDF incursions into supposedly Palestinian Authority controlled areas of the West Bank and Gaza, where families are forced into the street to have their house ran sacked and possible see their son or father or husband arrested, beaten or shoot. Hamas rocket fire has killed fewer than 50 people in the past 4 years, Israeli military action has killed more than 2000 mostly civilians.

The world calls them aggressors…do you think any other country would sit idely by while being attacked? CORRECTION: This image of Israel as being under attacked is a myth, Israel is the regional superpower – backed by the only global superpower – not to mention nuclear armed. The Palestinians are the ones living under military occupation.

The Israel government does all it can to protect the innocent..they phone the homes in the area targeted for retaliation to let them know to get out. Who else does that CORRECTION: I’m pretty sure I did not read about that happening in operation cast lead where the UN reported that Israel used heavy weapons and illegal white phosphorus in one of the most densely populated cities in the world killing over 1300 people, with conservative estimates putting the civilian toll around 800.

and why do the terrorists set up camp where the innocent live? CORRECTION: It’s hard to move around freely when you live in the worlds biggest open air prison and your freedom of movement is greatly restricted, often even when medical aid is required , by exclusion zones, walls and the 5th strongest military power in the world.

I wonder what the US would do if Canada or Mexico was lobbing bombs over our borders. CORECTION: That’s like comparing yourself to the bar fly and saying “I don’t have drinking problem It’s not like I drink as much as him”. Oh and Mexico did for a short period launch gorilla attacks into the US, oddly enough after the US occupied a large part of Mexico now called Texas – see any similarities ?

Look at a map of the Middle East. That tiny strip of land is all the Jews are asking for… CORRECTION: Well then Israel should make a serious effort to negotiate a just settlement with the indigious land owners -a true peace deal as opposed to Oslo which basically institutionalised the occupation while all the while settlements expanded, and the big issues of Jerusalem and the right of return where never addressed..

the huge territories surrounding Israel are owned by Arabs..why don’t they take care of their own if they are so concerned about the Palestinians? CORRECTION: They have for the last 60 something years, while the Palestinian refuges, who now number in the millions, wait incrediblely patiently for Israel to abide by several UN resolutions to let them return home.

The tremendous wealth of the oil-rich Arab nations is more than enough to care for all the impoverished people called Palestinians. CORRECTION: The only problem is the wealth from the oil is not getting to it’s rightful owners the people of the Middle East, It’s being stolen by multi-national oil companies from under the noses of dictators across the region – that could’nt do anything about it even if they where unhappy with their cut, as they are reliant on western aid and support.

What’s wrong with this picture? CORRECTION: In deeded !
